Hello family and friends! Mom needs help, so I'm using social media to try and get her that help. :-)
My mother, Denise Desatoff, is a year out from getting her degree in Middle Eastern Studies/Arabic Language and she's run into a bit of a snag - she doesn't have the extra $10,000 for the semester abroad she is REQUIRED to go on to graduate. I thought maybe if people knew she was in this pickle, we might be able to raise enough money to send her! So here are the details:
The total cost is $10,000 - not all of which I am trying to raise for her. She plans to work over the summer and will get some grant money come August that will pay a large chunk of the total cost.
And then of course there is money needed upon leaving which she will provide herself (plane ticket costs are included in the above deadlines).
I've spoken to her about this and the amount she's thinking she wont be able to come up with is between $5000-6000, so I've set the goal at $5000. We need this money by August 23rd at the absolute latest. If you come upon this after that, and still want to help, anything donated after the due date will go to helping her live (eat/travel expenses) while there. So you can always help! :-)

For those who don't know my mother, but like an opportunity to help, here's a bit about her. She raised my brother and I by herself since we were 3 and 2. She finally was able to go back to school in 1997, but since she was still taking care of my brother and I, and working full time, she could only do one class a semester. She stuck with it though. In 2009 she had finally finished all of her transfer requirements and was accepted to BYU in Provo, UT! At the time she did not know that the semester abroad would be required to graduate, and when she found out she tried to find extra loan/grant money but it was not forthcoming. In talking to her about what she was going to do I had the idea that maybe our friends would be able to help, and that's what inspired this fundraising idea!
If you cannot help, that is totally understandable. We've all been in financial low times. But if you'd like to help in a non-financial way, please share this page with anyone you think might like to help. Help thus far has come predominantly from completely unexpected places... so you never know!
